The DARTON team has just reviewed the latest “By The Numbers” report for August 2010 as published by the Charlotte Regional Partnership.

Some highlights from the report include:

  1. The unemployment rate in metro Charlotte decreased to 11.7% from 11.91% the prior month.  The unemployment rate decreased (month over month) in all but 3 of the 16 counties that comprise the greater Charlotte metro area.  There was no change in the rate in 2 counties (Mecklenburg and Rowan) and an increase in 1 county (Chester county, SC with the region’s highest unemployment rate at 17.9%).
  2. Year to date, there has been employment growth in 5 of the 10 employment sectors measured by the NC Employment Security Commission.  These industries, in rank order, include:  1) Professional and Business Services, 2) Government, 3) Leisure and Hospitality, 4) Education and Health Services and 5) Information.
  3. For the latest month, only 1 of 10 employment sectors showed growth in employment (Financial Activities with an increase of 1,000 persons).
  4. For August 2010, the top 3 companies in terms of announced “added jobs” included:  1) Supermetal Structures with 125 jobs, 2) Zenta with 100 jobs, and 3) Wells Fargo with 80 jobs.
